the sun is not my friend.
watched my sister's last soccer game of the season. despite the sun it was enjoyable.
she's only 10 so it's not an official league, just the AYSO (american youth soccer organization). at first i was nervous because she was among the smallest on the team.
but it was a good game today.
because she won.
and the 6 consecutive games before that, making them the best team of the season. as well as the team that scored the most total goals.
but that was predictable, it's my sister.

"G89 to window 21"
went to the DMV today to renew my state id card [again].
thought i would be there for about an hour so i brought a sketchbook.
but there were very little people there, so it cut my drawing/waiting time down to several minutes instead of a full hour.
did a lot of frantic scribbling. fast drawings sometimes end up looking nice, but usually when you don't realize how fast you're going. this time i was too self-conscious and listening for my number to be called [G89]. but some parts came out neat.

"fight your rival!"
those of you who played street fighter alpha know the character kasaguno sakura. inspired by a world champion fighter, she pursues to be just like him. she knows all of his trademark skills by heart and emulates them as best she can in hopes to achieve her dream of becoming a champion herself. of all the characters in street fighter, her goals are the most relatable. we're not the most talented, and we have someone we look up to and aspire to be.
but let's be honest. chances are, she'll never be able to match the fighter she is aspiring to be. much like myself. players even realize she's little more than the token schoolgirl character of the cast and will never be taken seriously. it's ok though, i believe in you.
i make fan art maybe once a year. i sometimes get inspired and start to make images of trademarked characters from time to time but i never really finish them. maybe it's because it's someone else's creative design and not my own. but, this late at night i decided i wanted to scribble something street fighter related.
-edit-color character
a lot of friends who are artists and avid street fighter fans had a discussion where they explained to me about how it's hard to capture the "essence" of street fighter characters in artwork, and how small things could make it lose that quality. hope i didn't screw it up too much.

"you made a better paper airplane"
model was fun to draw. she was the first tall, lanky woman i had in figure drawing. it was also the first time i couldn't finish drawing in the time alotted. the result is a somewhat unsettling image, but i like that.
i made 2 purchases yesterday: the visual novel Watchmen and Regina Spektor's album Soviet Kitsch.
it's embarrassing to admit that the wide release of the film was the gateway for me getting interested in the original comic but there's a first time for everything. potent storytelling and dialogue with great images. i'm liking it a lot so far.
regina spektor is an exceptional singer, and soviet kitsch has an album cover that i actually like. she has a natural talent she utilizes in a very fulfilling and intellectual way. bittersweet, playful, melancholy, and stranger than fiction.

brain lines
never realized how much i enjoy the act of drawing. starting to get over the timidity and nervousness that comes with producing a picture and just enjoying the process.
the feeling of pressing lead onto paper is immensely satisfying. wonder if i could bring myself to ever pick up the tablet again. i've been doing a lot of stream-of-consciousness drawings lately.
